The Magic Happens

Thriving Out Loud

In learning to thrive, falling in love with the journey is of paramount importance. There are many circumstances that life can throw our way that might prevent you from feeling like you are thriving and yet finding a way to enjoy the journey inspite of the circumstances will go a long way to creating a feeling of happiness in your life.

Here is a mantra I use to help me get past the rough patches when I am not enjoying the journey. I will use generic health issues in this example, however, this can really be applied to anything:

In this moment, like every moment, I am both living and I am dying, which will I choose for today?

Or for money it would read:

In this moment, like every moment, I am both wealthy and I am poor, which will I choose for today?

By the time I have repeated the mantra 3 or 4 times, I have sent a loud and clear message to my body/mind/spirit that I am choosing life or wealth or whatever the mantra was about.

The only thing is, that I need to be able to believe that both of the choices I am offering myself are real; which is pretty easy to do if you just consider this for a moment. No matter what pair you use, they both have to be true at the same time and it is only your perspective that changes going from one to the other.

In other words, in some circles the poorest among us would seem wildly wealthy. Take many parts of Africa or India for example. In other circles, with all things being equal, that same person would appear to be living in extreme poverty.

In the case of welbeing and health issues, no matter how sick someone is, if they are still alive, they are also still somewhat well. You can not be 100% dying or ill until you are actually dead. If you are only 99% dead, then you are still 1% alive or well. I know that is a bit extreme but it is important to get this part.

What we focus on expands so even if you only have 5% of life and health left in you, if you focus on that and believe it is possible, soon you will be at 6% and then 7%.

These things are true of anything you are facing and learning to enjoy the journey takes little more then making more choices - In this moment!

Oh, how true. I love the mantra -
Be Here Now. That alone makes me remember to enjoy the present moment and realize that control is a relative thing. If I enjoy the now - I am living life to the fullest. I used to marvel watching my stepfather who wa a woodcarver take a block of wood and transform it into a flying fish, frog or whatever. He used to get such immense joy in the process rather than the finished product. Lessons to live by.

So I choose to be here, now.

That was very well said, Kat.
You know I wouldn't be here today - in the Magic Happens community - the return of my spirit - if I wouldn't have realized how precious a moment is.
And when I hit that Ah! Ah! moment - I came up with this mantra - We can never get it done, we can only live moment to moment towards what is most important.
Just by saying this - at times when a gazillion things seems to be happening at once - has brought back to centre - feeling it NOW and letting "it" flow.
I appreciate your contribution to my world....Love & Peace...Parise

Yes... I'm just taking the first steps with "utilizing" the ideas and putting the knowledge into practice and my life. And having read your insights I realized that I focused too much on end results and forgot about playing and having fun with all of that. Thanks for the sharing :)

P.S. I'm just curious if playing with this mantra you mentioned will be enjoyable? I'll definitely try! I have good feelings about it :)

Best Wishes!

Hey Pawel,

For me Be Here Now - keeps me focused on the moment that I am in - rather than the future. Helps keep me grounded and keeps my mind from unnecessary wandering.

Have fun with it.

In this moment, our family's gearing up to hit the road again, but I wanted to let you know you've been in my thoughts for the past few weeks as I delved deeply into a volunteer project which unexpectedly turned into a fulltime job! I've chosen to savor every moment of the experience, knowing that I will be welcomed back into the Magic Happens fold when the time is right :D Just so you know I didn't fall off the face of the earth LOL

Oh, and I've been participating in Oprah and Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" webclasses, and last week's broadcast addressed this subject (a la The Power of Now) beautifully. You can view the ANE archives at Oprah.com or download the podcasts on iTunes.
