Finding Laser Focus

I really did mean to get to this group sooner but then this really cool shiny thing floated across the room and I chased it for a while instead. Chasing the shiny thing got the attention of the cats and soon they were whipping around the room with me knocking stuff over, so then I had to clean that up. It was dinner time by the time I got that cleaned up and I barely got all of that done before my favorite television show came on – which I really wanted to watch… Next thing you know it was time to go to bed and the realization that I didn’t get this group finished crossed my mind as I climbed into bed.

The above scenario is definitely an example of how life goes for me sometimes. Does it go like that for you sometimes?

It’s all the fault of that darn shiny thing!! It’s a snollygoster hell bent on stealing my precious time!! Enough of those snollygoster days in a row and a whole week, month or year has gone by leaving the things that needed to be done, undone.

Any of that sound familiar?

Focus has never been more important as it is now especially for those who are working to cultivate a conscious joy based lifestyle. It is difficult to meditate or use visualization practices without focus. It is difficult to create new sources of income without some focus. It is difficult to craft wellbeing if the mind is in control of us instead of the other way round… Our ability to focus determines the quality of so many different parts of our lives it is difficult to name them all.

The good new is: Focus is a skill and like any other skill, it can be learned, honed and built on. Small simple baby steps will go a long way to creating a more focused mind and to reap the rewards. Small internal habits that cultivate focus create massive external returns in any and all areas that the habits are applied too.

I know this to be true because it has happened for me. For many years I have fought with myself trying to get some measure of control over how easily I was distracted and how productive my days were. In the summer of 2007, some interesting little secrets appeared out of no where and when I applied them, everything began to change. Interestingly, I had already been practicing a few of those secrets and a slight shift in how I applied them made all the difference. Though on occasion, I let my little snollygoster have a day of free rain, today, most days are decided by me and I get to experience a nearly endless flow of creative productivity.

My intention for this group is to share what I have learned and to learn what you all come up with as we practice being focused together. :-)
Ok Everybody! Let's Focus!!
